Default 5th gear back off

so i just bought a 2001 1 ton dually with a five spd and injector pump and turbo off a HO with head studs exhuast clutch and injectors of some kind not sure what yet and was on my way to work today and went to go into fifth and it wasn't there and when i finally got it it felt like it was barely there and it wouldn't accelerate just kept slowing down...i didn't want to buy a 5 spd becuase i know they have this problem and now it bit me in the a@@ im wanting to see if there is anybody that knows if i need the ecm off a 6 spd or if i can just put the 6 spd in and also r the t-case's the same? also i know there are kits somewere that you can fix the problem permanantly? and will it hurt to drive around with just 1-4? if anybody can answer any of the questions above id really apreciate it. thanks

do you have a 6spd? the output size is different on the 6spd if I remember correctly. I have known a few people who drove around a couple days before they could get the trans fixed and had no added issues.

to change to 6spd youll have to get altered driveshafts, or find a set off of a 6spd truck and change your clutch disk unless your 4500 already has the larger input shaft. the 4x4 shift linkage is adjustable. Youll need a 6spd trans mount bracket but Im pretty sure you can reuse the trans mount itself. Ecm dont matter and if I remember right you dont have to lengthen the harness or vaccum lines. Not a too bad of swap. On the other hand WIT transmissions has a very good updated 5th gear nut. A more permanant fix is a Torque king mainshaft but, its not cheap. You might have just stripped the lugs off of the 5th gear synchro hub, thats a pretty cheap fix.

i have already got the larger input shaft and 13 inch dual disk im overpowering the transmission and hauling to heavy for the 4500 is the main issue so i don't think the nut will be a permenant fix for me does anybody know anyone that sells a built five speed? i don't have 3000+ for a six speed or the drive shafts out of one either

Well its not my page but, we buy from them and that shaft has never given any trouble to date, I wana say its around 900 but dont quote me on that. You mean you couldnt get trans into a gear at all? That could be just the dual disc. If you have a upgraded clutch master/slave unit try to adjust the push rod at the clutch pedal under the dash. South bends are adjustable and sometimes you have to play with them to get a good setting.

could be the four bolts that bolt your shifter down. ive seen that ALOT pull out the stuff around your shifter and check those bolts
