Would a hx35 hybrid be better than my 35

you will probably have to have the rotating assembly balanced, but it is pretty cake. All you have to do is put your exhaust housing from your hx35 on your hx40, depending on the size of your turbine wheel that is on your hx40, you may have to swap out your turbine and shaft from your hx35. If you have the clearance to use your hx40 turbine wheel (even if it is bigger) might even give you more boost due to tighter clearance.
Keep in mind, that a new set of bearings and seals are only about $50, but priceless if you don't put a new set in while you have it apart...
I don't know if there are any dieselbomber sponsors that have turbo balancing available, I worked with Robert Ogowa from BAE turbo, and he got me set up with just what I needed in just a few days.
By the way, with my current setup, I am pushing about 38-39 psi boost with my hybrid, and it cut my average EGT by about 150-200 deg.

on another note, the hybrid hx35/40 will flow more air than your hx40 and spool (I think anyway) faster than an hx35. your hx40 will not spool nearly as fast as your hx35 just based on the exhaust housing and turbine.

on my glowshifts, I have only had one problem, and the color button on my boost guage used to get stuck, but it turns out that I twisted the gauge face when I put it in, and had the button on a bind. "?" But I like them. Red works great for night time. It doesn't blind you while driving.
