Default towing with my cummins

my truck is not cutting it when it comes to towing, I am looking for some info how to make my truck tow better. Engine is stock, tranny has been built for HP. looking for a safe way to increase HP without risking my pump. Can I stack or can I get one piece to get me atleast 90 for now. I am a DAV so my funds are tight and I am not physically able to crawl over the engine like I used to, any guidance would be helpful. my gears are 3.55, I dont tow all the time but when I do I tow 10 k or better in and around WV.

Just about any tuner will help really. Edge Juice w/Attitude is the first thing you will get recomended to you on here. With you tranny already built, this would be a good option since it does come with built in gauges and good power. I'm a fan of the Smarty/Edge Comp Stack with mechanical gauges but that is a little more pricey.

I have seen a lot of heavy pulling done by a friend's 02 6sp with your mods and an Edge EZ and had no problems at all.

The Edge Comp by itself is not a bad unit for less price than the Juice w/Att. You just dont have the gauges/pod or safety features. The Comp is all power and doesnt defuel.

The Edge Juice with CTS/CS will give the best bang for the buck. If you want a programmer I would look at a Smarty.

what gears do you have in the rear end. I just put 4.10s and it is much better although I have 35" tires.

my gears are 3.55,

x3 on an Edge Juive w/Attitude, especially with the trans, fuel pump, and exhaust already done.

x4 for the Edge w/CS,CTS, or Attitude. Id also add a good cold air intake like AFE or S&B.

another thing to help out your truck when towing is swapping the gear oil over to synthetic better protection and frees up some resistance.

I had considered the edge juice thing but an ole boy scared the bejesus out of me by telling me that the pump would not last with the tweeking the edge does. I would only need the extra power for pulling cause the truck runs good now with the best of 25 mpg at 65mph. At 65 I am running almost 1800 rpm. I had the tranny built to handle 400 hp cause I had planned on purchasing the edge cts, thats when I learned the term of tapping the pump. I am planning on a stage 2 air intake if the bills would stop going up, thank you all for your help.

Ok, first things first. The Edge or any programmer does not make the injection pump on these trucks go out. The lift pump from the tank to the injection pump goes out and causes the injection pump to fail because the injection pump is designed to pull fuel all the way from the tank. Now the overtime because of the design of the injection pump, it can go out overtime but usually it goes out because the lift pump failed. Thats why on any of these forums where someone is looking to modify a 24v, the first thing we say is replace the lift pump, FASS or AirDog. Now since you already have a FASS, you can add the Edge and your injection pump will be just fine. I have had an edge on mine for the last 50K miles and an AirDog since 2007 and she's almost to 200K miles on the stock injection pump. The only thing I would recommend with the Edge is get the Stealth Pump cover from BD Diesel. It makes installing the Edge easier and you have a better connection on the pump. I used it on mine. Works great. If someone tells you a tuner ruined a 24v its probably because they didnt build their truck right and drove it into the ground. Drove around town with the tuner on its highest level without hardly anything else done to their truck and ruined it. Sorry i rattled off for so long. Hope this helps.
