Default Starting problems

Okay my Dodge cummins mfg date 3-98 has got me pulling my hair out. Sometimes it cranks and does not start. when it does this the lift pump is not kicking in. Have hooked a toggle swicth to it to turn it on but does not make any difference. Walk away form it a while, come back and it cranks right up. It does have a new lift pump. Sometimes loss of power while running down the road. Hit the toggle switch line it out, turn swith off and everything is fine. Also the tack will just quit at times running down the road. If you shut it off when the tack is not working your going to be sitting waiting on it to decide to start. Sometimes while idling the engine will throttle up like somebody is in it stompimg the accelerater. Talked to quit a few people. Somebody suggested asking you all. Hope somebody can help, it's been doing this for about a year.

PB,

Welcome to the site. From what I read this has been going on for a year? Have you checked or had the truck scanned for any codes?Do you have a fuel gauge? When the lift pump was replaced, do you know how long it had been dying out? Or how did you catch the lift pump going out the first time? Sorry for the questions just trying to get some more specific info so that you get the most help. Take a few minutes and fill out your signature so everyone can see what you have and possible have added to it.

24 Valve Right? You might want to check the fuel pump relay. It is under the hood drivers side fuse box. You need a fuel pressure gauge min. on these trucks.
