Default starter solenoid

Where is the starter solenoid on a 2002 dodge? I'm having a issue where when I turn the key all I get is a click. Then randomly it works. I will add a few weeks ago I had started it and it sounded like grinding for give or take 20 seconds. All info is appreciated. Thanks, john

On the starter, sounds like you need contacts and plunger. Don't remember the name of the company but the guy has oversized contacts with replacement plunger for like 30 bucks. I got them and its like a brand new starter.

I also had starting issues due to the contacts. Sometimes it would just click, other times it would continue to run the starter after i let go of the key. Only one of the contacts was worn really bad, but it sure was the problem. I ended up stealing a set out of a dead starter from a Deere engine. The contacts were a little bigger, and have been working great ever since.

took the old starter out and looked at it. the posts were fine. as i pulled it out I had fine metal powder showering down on me. I put a new starter in it and the truck starts like off the showroom floor.
