Default I feel like an idiot...

Well title says it all, tonight it was storming real bad on my way home from work, i really wasnt paying attention to what i was doing, i went to downshift from 4th t0 3rd, i couldnt find 3rd gear and when i thought i found it, it went in, let the clutch out and the whole truck shook, i pushed the clutch back in fast and realized i had accidentally put it in 5th I pulled it back out and slowed down enough to get it into 2nd, it went it with a bit of a tug, i then tried 3rd again and after a few attempts it finally went in.. I went through the gears to make sure everything was alright, now im wondering about my idiot mistake and if i hurt my tranny at all? ..... im even embarassed to put this on here....

You didnt hurt anything. You could do that once a day and not hurt anything.

It probably put a lot of stress on the drive line as the engine would have been lugging, and surging. It's not good for it my any means, but only one encounter of this incident shouldn't cause any damage.

I agree that it isnt a GOOD thing and I guess it depends on how extreme the lugg and shudder was but IMO if something breaks on your truck from that, the problem already existed. I beat the hell out of my stuff so it wouldnt hurt me one bit to have that happen.

When i left to leave the house today i put it in first and it didnt go no where, i put it back in gear and it was fine, dont think it was in the whole way, then i was sitting in neutral at a light and went to put it in second and it made a grinding noise... nothing bad after that, i guess is all ok?

I'd rater go for 3rd and hit 5th than go for 5th and hit 3rd, my wife did that with my Passat and spun the timing belt.
