this is exactly what happened to my truck, i chased it for days trying everything i could think of and anything i found in searching, but eventually the reality that i had a dead vp set in and i just bought one. works fine after installing it. but mine eventually got to where it just wouldn't start either. all happened in one day no codes or anything just quit reving up while i was driving it.

its just so damn weird it will like hiccup and then its fine until you shut it off haha i just dnt know it has me stumped too

Mine was doing that weird **** too and it was the crank sensor.

i just ordered the sensor where is this damn thing at i cant see anything in there haha is there a trick to changing it

On an '01 there is no longer a crank sensor, only a cam position sensor which is located directly below the VP44. Almost impossible to change without taking out the VP44 unless you have midget sized hands...
That's one of the reasons I always recommend changing if replacing the VP44...
