jarrett,

When I did mine, I did not drain the A/C. I left it all connected and just replaced the H/C.

Thanks bud. I plan on doing it here soon, very soon. I also want to replace the ball joints and I still have the steering brace I need to put on. Might as well go ahead and down my truck for a weekend and get it all knocked out. Just dreading removing that dash though. Sounds and looks like a P.I.T.A.

I did my 01 some years ago and was told I HAD to drain the A/C as there was no other way. Well, I found the other way. I took the square clips off the A/C lines on the engine side and that allowed me to slide the lines through the firewall enough to get the heater core out. I know that isn't the "right way" but it worked just fine for me.

As for the dash, I used tie down straps off the handles on the roof for the back seat and that held the dash back and up enough to work under there to get the core in and out. I used that Haynes manual and "adapted" my own method once I tore into it. All in all it took about 4-5hrs from start to complete finish. Good luck and don't cuss TOO much.
