Can anyone think of a good way to change the a/c pump over to an on board air system, if its even possible? I know on the older 1gen Rams (gassers) you could use them as an air pump.

 

I wouldn't think so since the compressor oil goes in the freon

 

I have heard it works, but only at low idle. Any more and the pump is toast. I don't suggest it, especially when there are decent priced 12Volt units available.

 

You can get an a/c pump to operate as an air compressor you just need a seperate canister to catch the pumped oil and return it while the compressor is running. Also need a good intake filter. I have done this many times and all of them still work great.
