Yep you would have to pull the motor.This is the time to look and see if it is worth repairing the block you have or finding a block and having it checked and transfer everything over head,maybe a upgraded cam,etc.

If the oil cooler was bad wouldn't possibly mix with the oil enough to where you might smell it in the exhaust ?
