If you can get the truck there, most auto parts stores will scan your truck for free and give ya the codes.

A $40 fuel pressure guage and $150 scanner doenst seem that high anymore eh?

Sorry to hear it.

There are a number of videos by DieselDan (I believe) on youtube that show all the steps for replacing the VP-44. Good luck.

You still really need that pressure gauge also to be sure your lift pump is working. A common reason for the VP dying is the lift pump going bad and not maintaining enough pressure. So if your if you change the VP and the lift pump is bad your just gonna kill off your next VP also.

The actual mechanics of replacing the VP are not that technically difficult, just more a pain in the butt then anything.

I don't think he was being an *** about it, he's just sayin that $300 is alot less than the $1500 you're going to probably have to spend to replace the injection pump and possibly the lift pump, I'll throw in my .02 cents and say Air Dog or FASS while you're at it, relatively cheap insurance to keeping the VP-44 alive oh and fuel pressure gauge
