has any body ever been driving a 2001 cummins and have the truck just shut off and not restart? we checked all the fuses and relays, discinnected the battery and the edge for a few minutes but it still wouldnt start. i went and got the duramax and we got it to start by pullstarting it. this was a few days ago and ever since then it will start right up. has anyone had this problem or any ideas what it can be?

Just to confirm, it would crank but not start? If it wouldn't crank there could be a dead spot in your starter motor.

 

How are the batteries? I know it might sound wierd, but my truck started starting hard like it wasnt getting fuel, we got to checking the voltages and they were getting weak.

We put batteries in it and it started like it was new.

I think the volts while cranking was just not enough for the lift pump to make any fuel pressure, or maybe the VP didnt like the low voltage I really dont know.

 

ya it would turn over just fine just wouldnt start. we didnt check the batteries but he was sitting there cranking on it for a little while and it seemed like it had pleanty of juice. it just seemed weird because it started right up when i pull started him. im just curious if there is a sensor going bad that the ignition sends power to or something because it shut off when he was driving it. ever since then its been starting just fine

 

i have a 98 24 valve and mine just shut off goin down the high way and wouldnt start again i undid the fuel lines and bled them and then it started right up and i only made it a few miles befor it happend again and i found out it was because my injection pump died i dont know if that helps any. but since you say its fine now thats probly not it.
