Default Fuel filter 1999 5.9 cummins

I am the proud owner of a 1999 dodge ram 2500 4X4 with a 5.9 cummins. the fuel heater has died and I have been told to get an aftermarket. My question is this, I am thinking about changing the factory fuel filter and heater for an aftermakket, if the aftermarket does not come with the water sensor and I do not hook the wire to anything will it cause a problem with the computer or set a code. Thanks for youre help. Jimc

You can disconnect the wire and tape it up and it's fine. I bypassed my stock canister for a few years but learned my lesson that the heater and Water In Fuel light are a valuable thing to preserve.

Where do you live? Unless you live in a very cold environment - you dont need the fuel heater. Most Cummins engines (except for the pickups) dont have a fuel heater.
