Default 6th gear and reverse givin me fits

I consider myself a fairly decent driver. Here lately the 'ol girl has been embarassing me here lately. Almost every time I go into 6th gear it grinds just enough to hear and aggravate me. Also, reverse is bein a b!tch, sometimes it goes in there with a touch of resistance, and sometimes it'll grind like I've never driven a truck in my life. Right now it's just a pain, but I don't want it to turn into bigger issues later on. This is the truck in my sig.

Ok, well I know nothing about transmissions. What does that mean, how difficult is it to fix and most important, how bad's it gonna hurt my wallet?

Ah dude they will have to drop the tranny and pull out the gears. Replacing a syncronizer isn't exactly quick work. On my last truck my sync was going out from 1st to 2nd. I said F it and just kept rollin' with it.

Try a fluid change first. NV5600 are very picky about their lubricant. I am running Amsoil MTF in mine, its getting time for a change. It will give me a grind into reverse every now and again. It will clash a little when cold and floating it out.

I was hearing about the Amsoil MTF fluid on another thread in here that the NV5600's are picky on fluid and mines sometimes givin me fits goin into 1st and rev. expecially when cold and every once in awhile from 2nd to 3rd thinkin of droppin the oil and puttin the MTF in it that way i know whats in it and when it was serviced. Its worth a shot better than tearin up a trans with wrong fluid or R&R on and tearin it down first with out knowing what fluids in it

Thanks, I didn't know about that. Come to think of it, I don't know the history of the first 120,000 miles of the truck before I got it and I'm almost to 170,000 now so it's probably due. But it sounds like yours is doing exactly what mine is, I usually float mine too.

Start with a fluid change for sure. Most of the time it will help enough to keep you going for a long time. You don't want to know the price of a rebuild on an NV5600...
