Default 1999 Dodge Fault code

Hi All.

I scanned a check engine light issue and the reader spat out a P0336 code. The book definition of that code is:

P0336 Crankshaft Position (CKP) Sensor A Circuit Range/Performance.

Anyone have a clue as to the real world meaning of that code?
Is it a loose connection?
Bad sensor?
Where is information to repair/replace the sensor?

Any help would be appreciated

i think it means you have a bad crankshaft position sensor, it is kinda hard to get to with the injection pump in the way but it is doable. it is underneath the pump and kinda sandwiched between it and the block if that helps

yeah on 98.5 to 2000 the crankshaft position sensor is where the ecm gets all the readings for the tach and such...and it is behind the starter. 3 10mm bolts and swing the starter out of the way and tie it up so it dont fall and smash you in the face and then just remove the bolt that holds the sensor in, most likely a 10 IIRC. 01-02 it gets all the info from the camshaft position sensor which is under the pump...

But yes the sensor is bad, mine went out to winters ago and is doing the same thing again, it took me like 4 hours to get mine out it sucked, the o-ring had rusted itself to the block and i ended up breaking it off and having to chisel out the rest of the sensor..

That sounds about right. The tach periodically cuts out every now and then. Other than that and the MIL light, you wouldn't know anything was wrong. The truck runs great otherwise.

Thanks for the info.

i know mine derates power like a mother when my tach stops working, it sucks other then that it runs great...but a little warning if you go to shut it off when the tach aint working and you just run into a store real fast it might not start because although the truck will run once its started with the sensor not reading...i will not start if that sensor is not sending info you just have to let it set for a few minutes til it starts reading again

Time for replacement... Just drop the starter down and replace the sensor behind the starter...
