Default Vp44

I ran a code reader on the truck and got the notorious 0216 code. When I changed the fuel filter I noticed that the lift pump was hardly pumping any fuel. I changed out the LP with a spare one I had in the garage and the fuel flowed like it was supposed to. This was about 6 months ago but ever since then the truck drives like it is in limp mode until it warms up a little bit and then i all of the sudden takes off with normal power like someone kicked it in the pants. I haven't had any starting issues with it, only the low power when it's cold. More than likely the VP is fried is what i'm guessing, it just has a good LP behind it. I plan on replacing it and putting on an airdog at the same time. What do you guys think? Does it sound like a classic VP44 failure?

She got a little toasty from lack of fuel, hence the P0216. As soon as you can, order a remand pump and fuel system.

I would clear the code and see if it comes back drive it around for a week and see if it pops up again, but clean your map sensor and IAT , there on the driver side back of the head in the intake that might help you out here is the link hope it helps

The code always comes back within a few days.

I had that same problem with my truck. I also sometimes had three or four codes pop up at once. They would just come back after erased. I had a Fass Fuel system put in but it was too late. Huckstorf Diesel put in vp44 race pump and truck runs like new. I have had no problems since install.

Indeed sounds like that. My HRVP was doing the same thing. If I came to a stop, it would work just fine. Over time, I was loosing power to the point where I could not get full injection power and thus, started blowing white smoke....

Def go with the AirDog or FASS when you replace the VP... You'll save big bucks down the line.
