53 series block
my friend ownes a 2001 cummins thought he had a decent block started to tare down and found a small crack in the block with stop leak in it. need some opinions on what to do now it has 140k on it????
This is a common problem and the only real fix is replacing the block. Drill a small hole on each end of the crack to stop it from spreading.
Theres some excellent info here including pics of my #53:
53 Block FAQ and Information
A good welder can weld it for him. But you have to know what youre doing to weld cast iron.

No they wont all crack. Only a small percentage (I hope).
But prepare yourself for the worst - its CAN happen, especially since many of these enges are getting some serious miles on them.
