Default thinking of converting to a 5 speed, is it worth it?

so i'm thinking of converting my truck from a built auto to a dual disc 5-speed.......i guess what i'm asking is, do you really think it's worth the money and the labor to do it? I know you lose more power goin thru the auto than the 5-speed but also not cheap to do the swap

i would say it depends on what your wanting to do with the truck, if your wanting to make it a puller (it might already be after reading your sig) then i would say absolutely its worth it, its really not that expensive about $5-6k including a good clutch...

I was thinking of doing mine to but it depends on what you do with it or what you want do with it. I would put a 6 speed in if it was me. It also depends on what is available and price. I know if i have to my drive train ever again it's going to be stick because I haul cattle and equipment. Just my 2 cents

For pulling power a 5 speed is excellent and seem to be rather strong for me. (381/826) I haul heavy and pull hard too...

Trust me a 5 speed can handle a lot... But since your high in thr HP/TQ curve than me I would upgrade the input shafts before installing...

i love my 5 spd, i think its worth every penny to do the swap, especially considering what you want to do with it, right now a nv4500 runs about 1k from most junkyards and 2500 new, input shaft will run anywhere from 500-900(1 3/8 in dia) and i reccomend the south bend 3850 dual disc clutch, itll set you back around 1800-2200 depending on the dealer. plus youll need the hydraulic kit which runs about 300, the pedal assymblies will run about 350 bucks from dodge dealers, may find em in a junkyard cheaper. I was gonna do this swap on my 98.5 but decided just to sell the truck to my brother and let him deal with the automatic issues
