As a general rule most guys will say never more then 21psi and never less then 5psi at any point in times is fine. This can go up or down one or two psi depending on who your talking to. Anything over 21psi leaves you open to hard starting and diaphragm problems in the VP. Less then 5psi tend to over heat the VP because it's not getting enough excess fuel through it for cooling purposes.

I been running an electric boost pump for about 3 yrs now. I run the electric only on cold days when the biodiesel gets thick and hard to push thru the filter. With these trucks you get what you pay for most of the time unfortunatly, except for vp pumps themselves. They all have to be rebult to bosch specs or the shop would lose their licence to rebuild them.
The reason there really aren't any free mods on these trucks is they are electronically controlled, 12 valves are mechanically controlled so they can be adjusted.
One thing you could do is block off the wastegate on the turbo and make a little more boost, this in itself won't add power but combined with more fuel it will. Unless your overfuelled to begin with, then it might add power.

IMO just get an airdog,unless you are going to be putting ALOT of miles on,then get a Mitusa belt driven pump,I've had one on my truck for more than 275k miles and it's still putting out a rock steady 15psi.
Fass/whatever will also work,airdog is just the one I've used on my mom's truck,so I know it works good.
