Default 99 ram 3500 24v hard starting.

I am sure this has been brought up and covered before but im in need of some advise. I have a 99 3500 cummins 5speed truck with 150k and im having hard start issues. The truck has a new injection pump ( last 6 months) has new lift pump as well. Still having hard start issues even with those install. I am getting great fuel pressure, 16-18 at idle and 11-13 or so going down the highway at 70 and even in boost. Not sure where else to go. the truck is pretty much stock with the exception of exhaust, CAI, edge, and upgraded trans.

Is this problem occurring all the time you start it, even when the engine is hot? Or only when then engine is cold? If so I'm thinking the grid heater.

Its all the time, doesnt matter if its hot or cold. I can go to walmart, shut it off and go shop then come out and have to deal with it again. Usually what i have to do is crank on it for a bit, stop and cycle again, crank and the second time it may start after long cranking. Sometimes it may take 3 times

Well with what im hearing that these issues are related to, is air getting into the system from either the lines or plugs or connections (banjo's). Air can get through if it sits for a bit. And since you just replaced your vp44 I would check all your connections again make sure all seal rings are not damaged. Even a crack or small dent can leak. Hey did you notice and sweats in around any connection? That may a be the culprit.
I assume that after you got it started, and you turn it off, then start it right away, it would have no problem, Right?

iv had suspicions that air leaks may be the problem but havent got to checking. 90% of the time yes if i shut it off it will start right back up without problems.

Then man, this is where I would start, take a look at EVERY line & connection and seal rings, even if you have to, change all the seal rings and clean all cerfaces too.

What is your cranking pressure? To much pressure at startup will cause hard starting.

Whats your fuel pressure at? Sounds like your fuel could have gelled. Id try cracking a line and see if you have fuel coming out as well.
