I have heard of a few later model 3rd gens swapping out their 68's for stupidly built 47's. I was talking to a guy a while back at autozone who had a 3rd gen. He asked me what all I had done to mine and I ask what he had done to his. That joker was like most newbies (not all, but most without proper knowledge received from the internet). He had some 50 hp nozzles and a smarty on a entirely stock truck. I told him he might want to look at upgrading the transmission. His words were "Im not worried if it blows I will go to AAMCO and get them to rebuild it". I think the "best" transmission you can buy would be either suncoast, firepunk, or revmax. But that route I think they are good for maybe 700-800 hp. And you are looking at atleast $6000-7000. No thanks.

My clutch can handle 650hp and 1400ftlbs. All that for $1100. Well worth the insurance IMO.

You want to keep it below 200 degrees. Going above will cause the fluid to break down thus putting your trans at risk of failure.
