Default Truck Died Today

I recently purchased a 2nd gen (see my signature) and I decided to have a little fun with it today. I had the smarty on SW5, TST on level 4 and water/meth set to spray at 20psi of boost. I was on it hard in 3rd and 4th and when I took my foot off the throttle (my driveway came up on me quick!) the engine died. I coasted into my driveway and it would not start.

The lifter pump would turn on and my fuel pressure was at 15psi as it usually is. I ran the codes an got the following: P0122 (throttle position sensor voltage low), P0602 (ECM fueling calibration error [smarty says is normal with non-stock software]), P1693 (JTEC module DTC detected in companion) and P0230 (transfer pump circuit out of range).

The VP44 is supposedly new with (1500 or so miles) (looks new). I turned the TST off and set the CPU back to stock through the smarty.

I cranked the engine for a bit and I noticed that when i pressed the throttle it seemed to want to turn over. I continued cranking it with the WOT and it eventuality started. It appears to run fine.

Any ideas?

Sounds like the apps got out of calibration or possible needed reset which happened when you put your foot on the floor during the restart. I would do a reset on the apps should fix it.

Someone on another forums suggested an air lock in the fuel line caused by getting on it and letting off the throttle suddenly, suggesting it's not uncommon. This makes sense to me.

I'm not sure what you mean by the apps being out of calibrations? Do you mind explaining what that means? I am relatively new to the diesel world and I appreciate the help.

I can't see your signature cause I'm on garage talk app but I am assuming this is a VP pump truck. The throttle is controlled electronicly through a apps function in the PCM that measures throttle pedal position via a potentiometer on the pedal and transfers it to an electronic signal to operate the injection pump fuel demand.

If you look in the 2nd gen 24v Cummins tech section there is a sticky post about how to reset it.
You may not need to do it but pushing the pedal all the way down and back up slowly probably reset it.

Would that explain the low tps voltage code? I guess I should replace the tps?

I would suspect that the code was set when the engine died after seeing some rapid WOT conditions and just didn't have time to process inputs after the engine died. The VP and the PCM had a missmatch from either the VP failing to process or the apps not functioning properly or the PCM itself not processing the signal intermittently sort of like a glitch.
but the apps may be a good place to start if you drive like this a lot or race on the drag strip. Just my opinion. Would hurt to check it did you find the post about how to set your apps in the Cummins 24v section?

Thanks for all the info. I found the post on how to set the apps. This is probably a stupid question, but is resetting the apps the same as adjusting it to the proper voltage?
