Default new to me 99 5speed

Well I finally got a truck! Its a 99 single cab 2500 with a 5 speed and 209k.
its got some rust and it broke down on me on the way home from picking it up.

So it only starts with eather, will not start normally. Died on me a few times after letting off the gas, kind of runs like crap.

So I dropped it off at a diesel shop and came home.

This is what I know, oil and fuel filter were changed a few months ago, I put fresh fuel in it but drove with the old for a while. He did say the lift pump was replaced with a stocker about a year ago. it also has a edge box i found under the hood.

Not sure how many time the old owner shot it with eather, but I did ABOUT 5 OR 6.

What do you guys think? I really hope its not the vp44.

If he was running an edge box with the stock lift pump, I would bet there is your problem thus leading to VP problems. What was the fuel pressure when it was running? I wouldn't recommend spraying ether in these things.

yea I know about the ether, i tried not to but had to.

Not sure about the pressure, I do not have a guage on the truck.

I think that if he ran that box for a while he smoked the pump, which sucks.

Oh well, I got for a good price.

I will let you know what the shop says

Yea well it was the injection pump, after everything it was 2300.

Not really what I wanted to do but, there you go.

Will take the edge box off, do not want to kill this one.

Get you a FASS fuel pump and put it back on. Once you can keep a healthy supply of fuel to the VP you wont have to worry about it for a while. I figured running that box with a stock lift pump is what got you in the situation you are in. But atleast its fixed and you can enjoy.

Yea copy that!

This is the one I am looking at:
FASS DDRP Dodge Direct Replacement Pump 98.5-02 5.9L 24V Dodge Cummins

https://encrypted-tbn0.gstatic.com/s...ZIieA&usqp=CAY

That fits in the same space as the carter one right?

I don't know, but looking at the install seems pretty easy. I have the FASS 95. Its mounted under the bed and has 1/2 inch line running from the tank to the VP. Personally I think its a better choice but not in the budget of most. BUT, it will keep you out of the shop for fuel reasons. Just make sure you get a pressure gauge.
