Default Need help with programmer!

I recently bought a 2001 cummins with a nv5600, the previous owner told me it had had a smarty in it before but was removed and put back to its stock settings. I have a quad adr. to put in the truck but do I need to get my ecm flashed because when I start the truck it will have a puff of smoke come out. should I get my ecm flashed before putting the quadzilla adrenaline in or will I be good to just put it in? opinions welcome on either quadzilla or smarty as well. thanks

Every time I look in my mirror when i start mine I see a puff of smoke, also seen others do it too. I think you're okay there.

As long as its black smoke and not white smoke you are good to go.
