Default Water pump upgrade?

I was told that on my 98.5 ram 2500 I could use the water pump from 6.7l 08 for better cooling just wondered if this is a good idea considering the lack of extra radiator in line and possible added strain on cooling system plus faster moving fluid possibly not cooling correctly under load? Just my concerns

I don't suggest that idea. Are you having heating issues? I haven't heard of any lack of flow issues in these trucks. If you are having heat issues, a higher flowing water pump, if it fits, is just a band aid.

That's the problem, I'm not 100% sure? When I bought the truck there were problems with injectors turbo ect so iv replaced and rebuilt most of the truck but even after performance upgrades I never had a problem with heat at least on my gauge it would virtually never get to optimal temp even towing a 10,000lb trailer 5 days a week but this being my first dodge I didn't know it was wrong but we get up to 110* plus here and recently my water pump went so I replaced with OEM and new tstat and electric fan setup and now when I start it takes 5 min to get to optimal but gets to high side and stays there <>15 under extreme load before over heat. So I don't know if this "without the overheat" is what I always should of had or if the pump should be upgraded due to extra hp or if the fans are playing a role in it? My fans are the flex a lite 262 pulling 5500cfm and I have lightweight aluminum radiator. Sorry for the book just trying to cover all my bases
Thanks

Electric fans can't pull the CFM as a manual fan, so there is lost cooling delta in the rad. Increased coolant flow will not aid in the overall cooling. Changing the fan set up, pump, and t-stat all at once makes it hard to point a finger. Likely it was just the t-stat, as they are common to failure.

I'm going to try switching back to the clutch drive tomorrow and see if that's the culprit I'll post back the results! Thnks for the input

Ok so I switched back to the clutch drive fan and the same problem continued so the only things different could have been the pump or the thermostat so I put back on my electric fans and changed the WP back to the "non upgraded" and everything is great! So if anybody was considering the idea of putting 08> 6.7l WP on their 2nd gens to give added water flow it is not a good idea! My thoughts are that the coolant is moving too fast in the system and now allowing it to have time in the rad to cool sufficiently and possibly to fast across the engine to allow it get optimal heat transfer.

Now I am runnin flex-a-lite 262 fans with aluminum radiator, fan clutch delete with stock WP "5vane enclosed" , 180* thermostat
I tow a 10,000lb trailer 5 days a week through the mountains in 105* weather and the hottest temps I see are 200-210

Thanks for your input to figure this out!
