Default Need help deciding on this cummins!

Newbie here and just want to hear everyone's opinions on this truck I am looking at. It's a 1998 24 valve cummins 4x4 automatic with 276,000 miles. He's asking $7500 but I pretty much talked him down to $5000 because he's a local guy in my town. He said it needs two front tires and a rear universal joint. He has the joint but just hasn't put it in. I'd like to hear your guys opinions and if you could tell me some things to look for. It only has one small rust spot that i could cover with fender flares. Let me know your guys opinions.

That's what I was thinking, but a couple other guys were telling me that it'll probably need a trans rebuild, lift pump, and injection pump real soon.

It has the vp44 in it? And the the price drop more than makes up for what you might have to put into it.

I'm pretty sure it does, but I'm kind of on a limited budget. That's why I don't wanna buy it and it need a bunch of new expensive parts but I'm sure it will.

24v is a VP-44. 276K miles is alot for a stock one especially with a stock lift pump. If its doesnt have a better lift pump get one. Soon. Dont think about anything else. Get a FASS or something similar. Stay away from AirDog. The new ones arent the best quality now days. Problem with a 24v isnt the VP44 injection pump its the POS factory lift pump between the tank and the injection pump.

That's what everyone was telling me and that's what I planned to do, but I found one a little better. Here's the link to it. It's a 1997 12v with 192,000 miles all stock except for being straight piped with no rust.
