so i bought a 1999 cummins and it turns out it had the 53 block with a crack. so i installed a 01 cummins motor and now the truck only revs out to 2000 rpms and only shifts to 3rd gear. when it shifts from first to second i have to take my foot off the pedal.i can't figure out why it is doing this. it is a 99 ecm and pcm. any help on how to fix this would be much appreciated!

 

99 has a crank position sensor, the 01 does not. Only thing I can think of. You may be able to get the computers reflashed for an 01 but idk for sure

 

Does it rev at all past 2000rpms i belive the 98.5-2002 all have really close to the same setup is the vp installed that came with the motor and also have you checked the tv cable for the tranny if you have to left your foot get it to shift it sounds like it isnt adjusted right also the pressure solinoid in trannys are a known issue i would bet you have two different issues

 

I stuffed an 01 motor into my 99 last Oct...Mine would not even start due to the no Crank sensor in the 01 issue....I finally ended up locating a Ford Cummins site that sold an external Tone ring for the Ford chevy aplications to get tach...I had to re-invent the wheel, but it has been running good since then , I just recently started having a Tach issue, and it is giving me a po336 CPS code...I replaced the CPS, but no fix yet, I am about to adjust my Air gap on the tone ring...I have mine Bolted to the Crank Pully up front externally now, 5 mins to swap the CPS now...

I am not sure how you got your truck to run at all, if you have all your 99 goodies in the 2001 Block, did you install your CPS into the Block behind the starter..? If so, did you verify that the 2001 Had the tone ring in the block on the crank..? you might have gooten lucky and got an early 01 motor with tone ring...? Mine is a late model yr motor....

Sorry about taking so long. It's actually an 02 engine. I never hooked my cps up. And it will rev out past 2 if it is in park or netural. And the cable is good to go. I took it out to my trans guy and he said everything was good. But I don't think he checked sensors.
