when I start my truck the volt gauge surges from 12 volt to 14.5 , it does quit doing this after a few min. is this normal or should I be looking for a problem ? you can actually hear the motor lug at first when the alt starts charging each time it surges

just the grid heater cycling. nothing to worry about.

 

Yup just the cycle. Its when it drops low and stays there that you might have an issue
