After looking at numbers and facts that my truck has, I finally found out what has been making me scratch my head so much. The truck has the number 7 vin and the 6 speed. But the engine has the 235 HP rating on the dataplate. Making the engine a S.O. engine. All this time I thought for sure it was the H.O. So the engine has been swapped. I know the power numbers from each engine but are there any benefits to the S.O. I don't realize?

 

Higher potential from an SO Injection pump than HO.

Compression is a little lower, but that's all the difference really.

 

SO engines make power more easily, and will tolerate higher boost levels before having HG issues...

though you may have an HO motor with a SO injection pump...

then again like my truck, not all 6-spds came with a HO motor...99.5-00.5 trucks with a 6-spd are SO motors which is nothing to complain about as it is great for making power!

 

Well that's good to know. I know for a fact its not the original engine though. I am able to get on Cummins website and enter the engines serial number and see its a 01 engine. But the vin for truck it was installed in doesn't match my trucks vin. So its not original. No big deal. Its still gonna continue to get modified.

 

how would I know if mine was an HO or SO

 

Look at your trucks vin # and if the 8th digit in the vin is a 7 is a H.O. Then look at the data plate on the engine. If it is rated for 245 HP its a H.O. engine. If it says 235 HP it isn't. The dataplate is on the left top corner of the front cover under the engine.

I looked and the VIN says I have a HO but I cant find that data plate

 

Its basically on the corner above the injection pump.

From what I know u have a little higher horsepower and torque and a better turbo.
