Best chip/tuner for 24v
Hey guys I'm new to this site and to the diesel world, I'm getting a 1999 cummins 5 speed, and has 129,000 miles. What's the best tuner for it . It has a 4" turbo back exhaust and a K&N intake. I was looking at the edge CTS but it was says it dosnt add horse power it just monitors everything. I want something that you can get good gas mileage but at the same time change the settings and blow black. Thanks guys!

its not too difficult. the issue with the stock lift pump is that when they go out there is nothing to tell you it went bad. there is no warning light, no pressure gauge, the pumps themselves are undersized IMO but you need to understand that the high pressure fuel pump (the VP44) is cooled by fuel flow so if it is starved for very long it gets hot and generally fries the electronics. A VP44 will run you anywhere from $1000 to $2500 depending on where you get it and if it has been turned into a high flow unit.
the first symptoms of a bad lift pump are usually the driveability symptoms of a bad VP44 and you then find out that the lift pump crapped out at some point and has been starving the VP44. it will probably cost you around $600.00 (Im guessing here so a vendor needs to chime in) to upgrade to a Fass or a Raptor setup but it will give you way better fuel flow and better filtration in addition to being cheap insurance against VP44 failure.
Also, if you run any kind of tuner that taps into the fuel pump wiring that will void the warranty on the vp44 regardless of who you buy it from or how old it is.
at 130k I would be surprised if that truck still has the stock lift pump on it, but if it was a fleet vehicle or if the previous owner was a "Dealer only service" person it might.
