Default Dead in the water. Any ideas?

Hey guys, well about a month after getting the transmission rebuilt in my truck....I have another, more puzzling problem.

I have a 99 Cummins, 106000 miles. Stock except for an intake. Oil, oil filter, and fuel filter changed regularly. Driving to work Monday morning, after about 20 or so miles of everything going totally fine, I got off of the Interstate to an exit ramp, and the truck just totally died. Radio and parking lights stayed on, but the engine shut off. Got it to the emergency lane and cranked it over, and over and over. Nothing. Engine was turning over, but not starting. Got it start once for about 10 seconds, RPMS were going crazy, almost like I was flooring it then letting off.

Got it towed home, and changed the fuel filter, and cracked the fuel line running from the fuel filter canister to the injection pump. Tried bumping the starter to bleed the lines for over 2 hours, and am not getting any fuel. The lift pump sounds like it is running fine, as it always does, just not pumping anything. Is it a blockage at the lift pump, in the tank? Can you "blow the line out" from the fuel filter line?

I don't have a fuel PSI gauge on it (I know I should but never did because it's NEVER had a tuner on it.) The tank has a half tank in it. Didn't act weird at all before it shut off, didn't sputter, smoke or anything out the normal.

ANY HELP OR SUGGESTIONS ON THINGS TO DO IS GREATLY APPRECIATED. THANKS IN ADVANCE!

Thanks for the response, where would I check it since there is no fuel running past the filter? I know I can check it from on top of the filter, but no fuel is reaching the filter housing.

Try adding some fuel and see what happens. You cant trust the fuel gauge all the time. My gauge was working fine one fill up then I was dry when the gauge said I had 3/8 left. Now I fill up every 480 miles or less.

Well, I thought that too, so I added 5 gallons from a carry can when I got it home! And had put $20 in it before I left for work. I am stumped.

I am willing to bet your LP is toast, it may turn on and run but it is not pushing fuel. I would try to find a cheap LP and see if fixes it, if it does then you need to save up and get a good aftermarket LP.
