Default Gauge Problem

so i have an 01 2500 and when i drive down the road the oil pressure gauge just drops and the check gaugeslight comes on then a few sec. later it gose off and the gauge returns to normal then a few min later it dose it again. dose anyone have any idea what could cause this problem

Oil pressure sending units can fail and give this problem. It could also be a wiring issue.

so do i need to stop driving it till i fix it or is it still safe to drive for a while till i can get it fixed

Most likely your engine is just fine, just an electrical issue. Best way to find out is put a mechanical gauge into the oil system. There is a port on top of the oil filter housing that works great for testing.

Mine did the same thing and It worried me aswell. I installed an Autometer op guage only to find the problem was a loose and dirty wire connection to the op sending unit. I know have two working guages. I would clean the wire connector first. Good Luck.
