Default Auto Transmission problems

Its a 93 d350 and the auto is very slow to shift. It revs up then sits there for a few seconds before finally shifting. Also it is very difficult to get it up to 60mph and it takes forever. Feels like theres no power but high reving. Also sometimes when i put it in drive it doesnt want to move unless you give it a lot of gas. But putting it back to neutral for a second then back in drive will get it going a little better.
I would assume it needs a rebuild. What should i get done? Should i pull it myself? Whats a good price? Engine is staying stock so i would assume stock rebuild is ok. But i tow with it every day and will be towing a boat long distance soon. Also what about the lockup converters? I'm going to be using it for long distsnce highway driving so i was thinking the lockup tc would be good.
Oh and by the way, the truck only has 144k on it.

in order to run a lock-up converter you'd have to switch to a 94 or newer transmission. I would still recommend upgrading to an aftermarket converter because the stock ones suck. stock rebuild kit is only $250 and pulling the transmission out of the truck is pretty simple, but rebuilding it takes some know how and i assume it has overdrive and to rebuild that unit requires a special tool to compress the big spring inside it. I would recommend at shift kit too, they run about $80.

Kickdown could be mis-adjusted. Will hang shifts. Check fluid also, should be at the safe line in "Drive."

Yes, the kickdown (or TV) cable will drag out shifts. Morning sickness (delay to engage) is a common issue with the Dodge automatic. It doesn't mean it's bad. The torque converters they put in these thing were weak to protect the transmission from the torque of the Cummins. A good aftermarket TQ is the solution. Before you go rebuilding it, there are other things to try. There are adjustments inside the transmission that can be done as well. Here are two instructions that can help;
Denis Hruza - Dodge CTD - Throttle Lever Adjustment (Kickdown)
Adjust your bands, shift points, and line pressure (pics) - Dodge Diesel - Diesel Truck Resource Forums
