i would just find dana 60 posie carier unit and swap, it very easy to do and does not require all new gears. much cheaper and you only need a dial indicator.

What's the application? You can get a posi or a lunchbox locker like an Aussie for the amount of money you will have in the new rear plus gears. In an effort to help and not over do it, your first gen should have a D70 in the rear which is very close to a 14 bolt, same size ring gear and bearings.

If u have a factory dodge diesel it has a 70u rear which is technically stronger than a gm14 bolt plus it's a little more versatile. Only reason I would swap is if the 14 bolt had some nice big disc brakes.

Something about this is not adding up bro. What isn't the same bolt pattern? All of the dodge and gm dana/14 bolt axles have the same 8x6.5" lug pattern. The only 8 lug axles with a different lug pattern are the newer fords with the 8x170mm lug pattern. It kind of sounds like one or both of your axles are not what you think they are.

first figure out what axle you have! then if your gears are the ratio you want and they look good dont change them. changing the pumpkin to a limited slipp is a easy job, but doing gears is not easy! if it dodge diesel it is a dana 70 or 80 if newer if not then if it a dana 60 it should have a 60 raised number on case, or get tag number and call a gear sales place. if you have a dana 70 keep it! if you end up buying a used posi make shure you put new cluches in it befor install.

For limited slip or a locker, do you need to put in the gear oil additive? I have a 92 D70 with a Detroit locker. Seems pretty stiff, any ways to check it out?
