Stock tach problem
#11
Actually it is quite possible, so I suggest you take your own advise and do some research. I've corrected you, and a man who owns a Non I/C truck with a "factory" tach has corrected you and you still think we're the ones that are wrong?
Sometimes the internet isn't the best place to find an answer.

Idaho cowboy can you post a pic of the tack and then a pic from the top looking down at you harmonic balancer.

Peobyrant I am done arguing with you. I do know these trucks inside n out and a 89-90 doesn't even have an pcm to run a tach never mind a crank sensor. The cummins doesn't have a coil to run a tach off like a gas engine. Do your research I'm not stupid you can't get one on a 89-91 from the factory.

Not only that, an owner of an '89 stated that he has the exact same tach I posted on his truck and you are refusing to believe him as well.
So I'll say it again, you most certainly can have a "factory" tach in the '89-'91 Non Intercooled trucks. But since you supposedly know these trucks inside and out it's not possible, even though there are many people who have these tachs on their trucks.

Again, I've done plenty of research and know original owners of non intercooled trucks who have the dealer installed tach. I've seen the paperwork, and the actual trucks first hand and they have the exact same tach that I posted on their trucks.

Okay do you own a non intercooled truck? Ifso go out n find me a crank position sensor, then go find me a pcm. Now on 92-93 model trucks the tach plug is taped to wiring harness that runs into the fues block. Tell me if you find a 4 wire plug taped there.

If For some odd reason it's a stock tach Idaho cowboy should check the crank sensor for the propper gap I don't remember the specs for a intercooled truck though.. If it checks out check all your grounds.

To the best of my knolage the N/I trucks didn't have a wireing harness for a tach from the factory, however the I/C trucks did so it was very easy for the dealer to install a tach.
that beeing said i don't know why someone back in the day couldn't have put on a alternator pick-up or an aftermarket pick-up on the harmonic balencer or flywheel to activate the tach.

If you could tell me how to download a pic in a thread i would be more than happy to. The person i bought my truck from put a ford intercooler on the truck so it is intercooled. but the tach pick-up has been on there a long time because you can see where it has rubbed on the balancer. i undid the bolts and tried to move it up but it is still havin the same problem
