I work for vw. The water pumps are made of plastic and tend to break. The egr likes to plug up with high mileages and glow plug harnesses go out.

When they plug up it creates alot of issues mass air sensors egr valves throttle blades even injectors and fuel pumps like to crap out. The transmissions seem to last. Just make sure its got clean fuel and the t belt water pump are done they are really good cars and id rather work on the tdi then the gassers

The manuals get better mileage but the dsg im the 06 is just an automatically shifted manual. And i haven't seen that many trans issues compared to mopar where i also worked.
