Default POT in place of TPS

My 92 has no TPS or even the bracket for it on the pump. Until I scrape together the money for a NV4500 swap, I need my overdrive real bad. At around 70mph, I'm settin on the governor. This is not good for the truck in any way, shape, or form. I need any info I can find about the POT I have seen mentioned to replace the tps. Thanks!

I just went to radio shack for the potentiometer and got some pins from them to fix a vga cable on a computer monitor plug. Got a old computer power cord cut the ends off and soldered 3 wires to the 3 prongs on the pot, and then the vga pins to the other 3 wire ends and plugged them in a 1-2-3 order to the plug to match the order that the pot ones were soldered. As long as they are all 1-2-3 (center wire on both ends is the same wire) it will work. It will just work the pot backwards from each other if plugged in either way. Then tune for self preference.

Here's a write-up.

Yeah, I seen that. That just seems a bit much for a bandaid, but I guess it is way better than $240 bucks for a TPS...

Oh yeah? I have heard that they eliminate kick down from OD to 3rd. I guess if one makes proper trial and error tests and sets a mark for upshifts for normal and loaded, and marks for down shifts normal and loaded and has the multitask ability to adjust the position on the fly its as good as stock correct? I am new to this arena, so forgive me please. I understand how it works, but I hate bandaiding stuff. I really hate an auto, I have the truck cause I got it for a song... I was thinking I could just build my own Tps setup with a standart radio shack POT. If I can find the proper voltage ranges I would love to try it as a challenger to myself. As my signature says, 5 speed is in the works. It will take bit to get the cash for it, so I hate to just throw something on that is a pain. I have read a lot of good posts for just a straight POT set up, but if I hafta have an auto, I want it fully auto... Just a thought. I with probly just end up throwing on a POT. Thank u for info!

I just found another post that might help you more and save money.
Low buck TPS fix - Dodge Diesel - Diesel Truck Resource Forums
Might be my next choice.

Thank you much. My biggest issue is somebody removed my tps and bracket. All I have is the harness plug left... I'd like to meet whoever did such a dumb thing... Mebbe on a dark back road...

I made mine to and you right no kick down thats why putting the od switch in the shifter is a good idea so you can manually kick down.
