I also have a similar problem. My overdrive works but it is very inconsistent. If I am heading into a head wind or it seems if I am any more than half throttle around 55-60 cruising speed it wants to go in and out. my speed is also off on my speedometer but hey theres an app for that. I am just curious why it is so inconsistent on going in and staying in.

its right on top of the pump mounted over the throttle shaft. We have a 92 A/T drive train that we just pulled out of a D250 and does have a TPS.

Will someone please post a pic of the TPS location. I must be blind, stupid, or somebody removed it.

On mine it's a square piece right on top of the front of the pump with 3 wires going to it and I had to have mine replaced. My truck also has a switch that the previous owner put in that was the new O/D switch. The factory one didn't do anything but light up and click. I don't know where the wire for the aftermarket switch ran though and now I can't look cuz I have an NV4500 in there instead...

Very top left of this pic with the 8 on it:

Im not actually sure if mine was bad actually though, it was a dealership that diagnosed it as bad and replaced it along with the stupid cable but the O/D stopped working half way to Evanston and I pulled over and wiggled the plug and it worked again when I got back on the road... Also, if you touch the cable be careful! my transmission went out almost immediately after the dealership installed that and the failure to adjust it properly could have been the cause according to some people on here. The transmission was absolutely fine according to the fluid when I had it worked on and when it went out immediately after that, the fluid was jet black...

The pic came from here: http://www.dieseltruckresource.com/d...d.php?t=128911

A pretty fantastic post indeed!

Yeah, aint none of that on my truck. Guess somebody swapped it out. I try to post a pic of mine tomorrow... That way I don't seem dumb, or atleast then I know I aint crazy. I got a lot of info from your post on the swap. I'm trying to gather the funds to the same, but, moneys tight. I would like to have overdrive, cause I'm geared 4.10.... Sshe tops out on the governor at 70mph or so.

Sorry for not posting a pic yet. I been working dark til dark and a blackberry don't take good night shots. If what I see is true, is it worth it to throw on a POT in the TPS's place. I have started saving for a 5speed swap simply because I hate an auto, but it will take a little while to reach my goal. I need OD like yesterday.

I did find a 2 wire connector tucked in behind the pump. There is no plastic gizmo on my throttle shaft. The truck has a charge air cooler and the VIN matches. I know it a 92. Mebbe pump was swapped out... Idk.

Well now you know why you don't have overdrive. There is a way to install a $30 tps instead of the factory $230 tps. Search on cummins forum

Yeah, my truck was down for a bit over a month trying to get it all together and paid for and I still have my $1,200 credit line maxed out...

But yeah, that explains why you don't have OD for sure. I wouldn't need that on there anymore right? If I can get rid of mine it'd be up for sale for sure if you wanted to do that. Mine's almost new cuz I had it replaced to fix my O/D 500 miles before my tranny tanked... I'd even have the wiring and the plug at the other end and everything... Speaking of that, I have all sorts of other parts obviously so if you need any of that stuff, its all for sale. I'd love to recoup a little of the cost to try and pay my credit card off haha...

I had a loose wire on mine, I'd check that stuff first! I got out to wiggle the plug once and it quit doing it for a few hundred miles...
