Default overdrive

I have a 92 W250 cummins with an auto trans... I hate an automatic, but I got the truck for a song it is decent daily drive save for the overdrive not functioning. The button on the dash works properly(at least judging by the light). I am repairing the speedo gear reduction box, but have the sensor direct to t-case for now. 40mph on speedo is actually 55mpg roadspeed. This truck has a TV cable set up and not a tps... OD is not kicking in at all, but I do have "lock-up" on the convertor... Any info would be great. Feel free to txt me- 540 624 2598. Thanks much!!! JD Christian, III

You have a lock-up torque convertor in a 92? Did the previous owner swap that in? Sounds like you need a new tps.

Yes, it is an A518 which is a lockup convertor overdrive transmission... This truck does not have a tps! It is a TV cable setup... I have been around transmissions a lot for 10 year working with my grandfather who has been building auto-trans's since 1955. I have never done a 1st gen cummins auto though. I believe it needs a TV cable because its adjustment will not come into range.

I recently goit this truck 'for a song'... It is beat up bad but the maintenance has has been kept up for at least the past 3 years by me. The lady who was 2nd owner had me keeping that up... Engine is good and trans is good. Not just be sight and feel, but I had fluid samples analyzed... Btw, ford has run a lock up convert since 87... I am a ford guy, so I know them, but dodge is new to me. I have worked on 5.9s for a while but not in a pickup...

The A518 does not have a lockup converter and it uses a tps and tv cable.

Ahh yes... So is 46RH another name for the A518?

Glad to see you still hanging around here, David!

Yep, 46rh is the same thing as an A518.

That truck looks awfully familiar. You wouldn't happen to be on 1stgen.org as "Ace" would you?

Where the heck is the tps?! I cannot find it anywhere on the throttle linkage (or a plug that is not plugged in where it could have been)

Oh no, I've been exposed as the former Ace - from there and other places.

So many web forums, so little time...
