Default Found a suprise on my engine

I am taking my donor truck apart for my conversion and i got the front clip off and decided to look at the turbo, Well it is a hx40w. It has no wastegate, so is this thing a pile of junk that wont build any power. It says it was built in 03 and yes it is an actual holset. It also has the 6 blade wheel.

Might be a little lazy depending on your mods, I'm on my phone and can't see a sig. Other option would be to use the 40's compressor wheel and housing to make a hybrid turbo.

I do not know anything that has been to the truck. It was a dog when I bought it. I just thought it was the converter that was causing it to be a dog. What other turbo should I get to make a hybrid?

If you can find a 7 blade wheel it will be much much better, the 6 and the 8 blade are not that great of an up grade.

I've got a 92 with a rock stock turbo, i believe an H1c, has no silencer ring, and def was never messed with. i have the fuel pin turned and the smoke screw adjusted along with a cone K&N filter. The VERY max boost out of this thing is 8 psi. what are cheaper upgrades or replacements. i would like to turn the truck up more, but what turbo would jive with more mods?

CUMMINStagetcha19- your only making 8 psi of boost? something has to be wrong because i can make 25lbs of boost easy with my stock H1C

8 lbs sounds a little light. i'd check my boots for checks, then maybe air leaks in the intercooler. My h1c makes at least 20 lbs.
