Another NV4500 Swap
#22
Thanks CREWCAB 59! 1st gen puller, I would keep the rag, I have heard of guys who have jammed gears for awhile with both the getrag and the 4500 and liked the getrag better. Im not 100% sure but im pretty sure someone makes a bellhousing that will allow you to bolt to your block and then bolt the 4500 on that without an adapter plate. That should let you run your starter flywheel and clutch setup that you have now, you might just need to get a new throwout bearing. Also the trans will sit back a little further and you will more than likely have to cut a new hole in the floor pan and rig up a crossmember mount.

Advance Adapters makes a getrag replacement kit. I have one sitting in my shed for if I ever get around to swapping in my nv4500. I bought this kit as at the time it was cheaper/easier than sourcing the 2nd gen parts I would have needed.
This is what you get with a 2wd kit. Not sure what exactly the 4wd kit has.

first 2 times I broke the nv4500 it was the 5th gear ring nut baking off and the 3rd time I lost 2nd and 3rd gear. after that we had a billet input / output shaft put in with new syncros gears and bearings all work was done by AC transmision here in denver Five R Trucks recomended them and they rated the tranny up to 850hp but the bill was $1700 bucks to have a somewhat bullet proof nv4500 we also added a southbend clutch
