Another NV4500 Swap
I might get my hands on a 94 Cummins with a nv4500, can i swap that into my 90 first gen? The 94 is trashed so I was also going to snag the turbo/intercooler/intake also, can I make all of this work in my 90 as well?

Take the adapter plate from the back of the block and you'll be golden for the manual swap. Turbo, and intake horn will work as well. Intercooler is VERY tight, I actually don't know if you can squeeze one in the front or not

i dont have an A/C cooler in the front of mine and i still dont have room for the stock grill. i put some wire mesh in front of it for now. i used a 2nd gen cooler. u can probly trim the back of the stock grill to make it work.

Will he need to change the starter also?
|
Yes, first gen and second gen starter bolt patterns are different. He will need to take the starter of the donor engine too

Thanks for the info guys! Cant beat a 5 speed swap with everything and intercooler setup for 2k. That gives me another motor to build up on the side also.
---AutoMerged DoublePost--- What about T Case, cross-member and shafts?? If I remember right the pumpkin on the 2nd gen was opposite of the 1st gen? |
You're correct. You might have to do some hunting for a transfer case. Spline count will be different, plus as you stated the differential is opposite of a first gen.

Re-use the front shaft from your first gen. You'll probably have to find a transfer case for a manual first gen, if that's the case then you won't have anything to worry about for drive shafts

Looks good. Also has 4500, so no need for tranny cooling. That might have been too many plumbings for even an aggressively trimmed grille. |
