Default 1990 Cummins Value

Hey, guys. I'm looking to buy a first gen Cummins. I'm a Ford guy, and I've never owned a diesel. Only gas trucks, but I won't have anything but a Cummins. Looking to make the switch for the power, longevity, and fuel economy. I've been looking all over Craigslist and they're kinda hard to find. I don't wanna jump into anything because I'm hoping to have this truck the rest of my life. Is there any "best" years from the first gens to really look for?

1990 Dodge 2500 4x4 with the notorious Cummins 5.9 liter 12v turbo diesel,,,auto trans,,, all original and has never been tweaked or tuned,,, unmolested original truck with absolutely zero rust,, cold AC,,, truck runs runs great fires right up and the trans shifts smooth through all gears,,,body is in great shape and the paint is also pretty good condition, however the clear coat on the hood is starting to go,, could use a good wax,,, truck has 230,000 miles,,, this truck is extremely reliable and will pull a house,,,drive it anywhere with confidence,,, heavy duty rear bumper,,, the only issues it has is the driver side power window only works when it wants to and the windshield is cracked, clean and clear title in hand,,, still runs like new,,,$5,700 obo

The truck is located in California, do you guys think this is a fair price?

fair price yes. the truck will be extremely doggy if its all stock. plan for a few minor mods. the tranny really will need a tc and vb to stay alive and it will make it a new truck performance wise. my personal mindset on any make model of vehicle is NEVER buy a first year. which yours is not. love first gens. good luck.

A NOTORIOUS CUMMINS? its not an bad engine its a great engine. The price seems fair, they have a rotary injection pump instead of a piston pump. plus the frames like to bend on the 4x4 so you know. I rather buy a 94-97 12V I have a 24 valve im just fine and dandy with it.

I'm getting discouraged, it's hard to find a first gen in decent shape. There's a beautiful one in my town, I asked the guy if he'd consider selling it and he said he is. His boss gets first pick though, I guess he wants to buy it for when his son gets to high school. I've got my fingers crossed, though. He said he'd call me if he doesn't want it, I don't see why he wouldn't, though. It's a stock white 91, 4x4, 200,000 miles with mud tires and nice aluminum wheels. Truck is pretty much immaculate, he wants 5k.

ranchhandtcr.... what in gods name are you saying? there is no such thing as 4x4s that have bending frames, if anything theyre stronger than your 2nd gen!! these trucks were built when companys werent afraid to use 3500lbs of steel on the body and chassis, you obviously dont know what youre saying so dont have an opinion that isnt in anyway true! 12vdc, i would go ahead and make this guy an offer lower than his asking price prob somewhere around 5100$ because that thing is a beauty!!
