do the basic free mods and that will keep you happy. just be smart about where you get on it. im sure most of us has gone through a stage in our diesel world where all we wanted to do was blow a little smoke on our friends cars or something.

Guy's we don't treat new mwmbwer this way. Y'all know better. Educate...

Camden, As you have seen now smoke is a touchy subhect and most take offense to just wanting to blow smoke. There are two ways to make smoke. Have a crappy tune that smokes because you are just overfueling it and want to smoke people out all teh time (bad kind) or have a high performance truck that will haul teh mail and smokes but you control it in public. (good kind) the second kina smoke is a byproduct of performance. Thats what you should shoot for. We don't go looking for smoke, alot of guys take alot of time to tune as much smoke as possible from there setup.

Stick around and you will learn alot. We are a bunch of great guys here.

to the OP

as RSWORDS said "blowing coal" gives us all a bad name not to mention makes NO power and decreases MPG with that said do your mods right and get some gauges the 150-350 dollar investment is worth saving your 1000-3000 dollar engine

I'll help educate: you don't "blow coal" or "roll coal" when you own a cummins. That is behavior for kids in their other trucks. Cummins owners understand that black smoke means lost power and wasted fuel. Go ahead and just drive her for WORK.

Its not lost power as in the engine losing power, its lost as in you watch it go out the tail pipe and never get it back. Wasted fuel is lost power. Thats fuel you cant get back and wont ever burn.

i have stock injectors strait piped rebuilt air intake and minor pump tweaks and i get haze when i get on it but if i really put my foot to the floor it will smoke out the race car behind me. expecially if they run those blue or white head lights or the guy you pass thats doing 35 on the free way but honestly just put a noise maker in like a train horn thats much more fun then a little smoke and makes it much harder for cops to catch you

Smoke is unburnt fuel. Unburnt fuel does not make any power.

And most the top level extreme high HP guys use extra fuel to cool the cylinders down.
