eating up powersteering pumps
i have a 91 w250 and i am eating up the power steering pumps all i have dome is turbo and turned the pump up a little and straight pipe..does anyone know if i can run the hydrstatic system off a 94 12v to eliminate the vacum pump and the power steering pump problems i have and suggestions is appriciated

i have no lift and i run 285 65 16 at nothing aggressive. trucks a 5spd 4x4. my pumps 3rd one in 4 months are burning up getting so hot that it burns the fluid out of em

You probably need a new steering box - valve stuck or clogged. You could try flushing it. I run a cooler and filter in the power steering circuit on my 1st Gen - not because it overheats, but because the power steering systems on these trucks are minimal at best. Very little fluid in a system that has to contend with a D60 under a heavy front end.

Filter is a Magnefine - install in return line. Great little gadgets:
You get them lots of places. I think the last batch I bought came from Rock Auto. Just search for power steering filter.
The cooler is a Ford unit for an F-something I found on eBay for $10. You can see it in behind the bumper there:

Plumb these in with a few bucks worth of tubing and clamps and you'll never have a power steering problem again - assuming the box is good.

Yes you can convert it and get rid of the vacuum brakes. I've seen a few people do the swap, seems pretty easy. search for it in archives, it's in there somewhere

well thanks for the info man it all went together like a dream flushed my box put a hardline from the pump to filter on the high side to the cooler to the box then new soft line on the return side with a filter should work out i hold about a quart more now and everything is staying nice and cool appriciate the help
