Default bypass thermostat housing

I just talked to a buddy who put a 2nd gen thermostat housing on his 1st gen. He says that eventhough your temp gauge shows your motor temp is ok, your head can be considerably hotter due to air pockets/ hot spots. apparently the little bypass hose on the 2nd gen housing cures this. any body heard of this? comments? thanx

Yes the bypass does help, but it doesn't do it by itself. If there is air in the cooling system of a diesel it will destroy your engine over time. this little hose helps YOU to bleed the air out of the system. i would recommend putting a 2nd gen housing on

Another thing you can do, if you don't have an extra 2nd gen housing layin around, drill a small hole in your thermostat and install a butterfly drain valve in head next to the thermostat housing. this will help to let the air escape the system.
