Default m&h timing advance and smoke device

Does anyone know what the dynamic timing advance and smoke control device do?

Dynamic timing advance is a spacer that goes behind the KSB solenoid. The KSB advances timing when the engine is cold or retards timing on non intercooled engines. What the spacer does is give it more travel, thus, more overall timing 1mm if i remember correctly. Somebody correct me if im wrong and if you know the in's and out's of dynamic timing. The smoke control device gives the smoke screw more travel allowing better smoke control when tuning. Hope this helps bud.

901stgen summed it up pretty much. The spacer will give you up to 27° timing advance if your pump is set at the stock timing marks. Thomas at M&H recommends running stock timing with the spacer.

Alright thanks guys. I already have my fuel screw half a turn from run away and was wondering how much an m4 pin, timing advance, and 3200 rpm spring would wake up my truck?

Those upgrades will make a world of a difference. Just the 3200 spring alone will make your truck more fun to drive. Throw in some timing and that pin and you will have a truck thats a blast to drive.

i've got a stock pump, and havent turned the pump. i want to put a m3 fuel pin in and have heard about the dynamic timing advance. how much would the fuel pin and timing advance help my truck? and would my KSB be faulty if my fuel mileage varies terribly due to ambient temp? Now that it's about 90* consistently i get about 18mpgs, in the winter, or anytime it's below 60* i get about 15mpgs. And besides the heaviness of my right foot how much mileage increase would be seen from a fuel pin and dynamic timing advance?

Copied from a reply to a thread I posted a year ago.

Sat down and figured this out one day. And with a little help from some friends, got the numbers fine tuned.

Cummins engine VE pump timing: (unverified)
1.25mm pump lift = 12.5° stock intercooled (1.4mm stock non intercooled)
2.4mm additional pump lift (advance) = 21° - 22°
M&H timing spacer increases to 6.4mm advance = 31° - 32°

1mm pump rotation = 1° timing (verified)
1 tooth on drive gear = 10° timing (verified)

1/8" bump is 4° - 5°

Hope this helps
