Default 92 518 Question... HELP

SO yesterday i was driving home and truck acted like it was neutral, No matter what gear i put it in would no move.. So i had her towed home 85 dollars ugh for a 5 mile trip..
Fluid level is fine and its got a new filter as of last week. Shifter linkage is working right
Is this common for them to just go all the way out with no warning?
Any ideas what to look for? Do you think a total rebuild ?

... I thought of something, then actually thought it through, and realised it couldn't be what I thought.

The PO said he only put K on it i did about the same..
Pulled it down yesterday date code on inside of bell housing was 05/20/08 Cotton-mans
so I'm guessing that is when it was redone. The fluid coming out of it was full of metal I am dropping it off Tuesday to have a total rebuild done for $850 from a shop i do allot of business from... sux is i just put 1k worth of rims and tires on her to same day

Still singing that tune eh, Snowboard? Oh well, whatever man.

It is a heck of a deal though. Don't like the sound of lots of metal coming out with the fluid.

So you guys are saying I should be saving up for a new 518 for when it cooks itself?

Heck man, we ALL should be saving money for maintenance on our trucks. And our houses, our bodies, our relationships....

Don't worry about it, I'm pretty sure your transmission will give you a few warning signs long before it dies a horrible death. Preventative maintenance goes a LOOOOOONNNG way.
