Default Couple tranny swap Q's

So im getting rid of my 727 auto and putting in a built A518 tranny. The couple questions i have are will the A518 tranny bolt up to the adapter plate that my 727 bolts up to now or do i need to get a different one that takes a o/d tranny? if so, i have an adapter plate off a 96' cummins auto, will that work?
also ive heard the 2nd gen flex plate is better than the one in the 1st gens. is this true? if i put it on wouldnt i need to run a 2nd gen starter too?

thanks for any help

727 to 518 use the same motor plate. you will not need to change the starter. as for the flex plate the 2gen is the same as 1gen go into Cummnis and ask for a flex plate for the 1gen and it updates to the 2gen plate. the updated plate is made alittle thicker and shotpeened. the 518 you are putting in is a nonlockup transmission right?? Ken

AFAIK there is no such thing as a lockup 518.

ya its non lockup. wish they could be made to be lock up though. i already have a 2nd gen flex plate from a 96' parts truck that i have, so should i just use that one since i got it?

Yep, it'll bolt right up. As kensmachine said, if you go to your Dodge dealership and have them look up a 1st gen. flex plate, it'll give them the 2nd gen. part #.

Is that possible Ken? That could really open up the possibilities for us 518 owners if it is.
