Default New to the 12valve's.. Suggestions?

Hey guys I was just wondering if you all could give me some input on a truck I'm thinking of buying. Its an 89 first gen 12v 160k 3speed auto(727). First off I want some good power but dont wanna break anything. How tough are those 3speed 727's? How much power will they handle? Its got a brand new Jasper trans if they're any stronger I dont know. And on the fuel plate and star screw what would you all recommend on that? Has anyone ever fooled much with the silencer ring? Thanks a lot!

first thing, GAUGES!!! as far as the tranny, if they are like the 518, which im sure they are, they need a good torque converter and valve body. no silencer ring on H1C.
read this on turning up the pump https://www.dieselbombers.com/5-9l-r...g-pump-up.html

Thanks a lot,I will have to study turning the pump up. It will get gauges as soon as I get it I'm a firm believer in them.

IIRC, Jason Sands of Diesel Power mag was pushing 400-ish HP with his built 727. A'course it was slipping a bunch but it didn't break. The things that'll break a tranny are boosted launches and the like, snapping input shafts and U-joints.
Never heard of Jasper so can't comment on that.

Jasper isn't a performance rebuilder. It might be as good as a stock trans if it's a good one.

A slippery non-lock-up converter isn't likely to break anything because it never puts a load on the engine. A 727 transmission can be built for as much power as you can make, and I wouldn't have any fear on a stock one until I had a hotrod torque converter, turbo and injectors.
